Cycle North square v3.3.png

Version: v1.1

New policy: March 2024

This policy reflects the Cancellation Policy adopted by the Bikeability Trust and shall be applicable to all Bikeability training courses provided by Cycle North.

A copy of this policy shall be provided to schools during the booking process.

Bikeability training is publicly funded by the Department for Transport and cycle training is delivered across England by registered training providers. As a registered training provider, Cycle North and our instructors are quality-assured by the Bikeability Trust.

Schools are expected to support Cycle North and make reasonable steps to ensure full attendance at Bikeability courses. Cycle North will also try to make reasonable alternative delivery arrangements where possible to ensure that course participants do not miss out on Bikeability training unnecessarily.

It is appreciated, however, that from time-to-time events have to be postponed or cancelled altogether. Where this is the case, it will be dealt with in accordance with this policy.

Cancellation by schools:

It is understood that occasionally a whole booked course is cancelled. If a course is cancelled in its entirety the following shall apply:

Time of cancellation before the training start date:

More than 4 weeks

No charge

Less than 4 weeks

50% of the course costs, provided Cycle North cannot find an alternate school / organisation to fulfil the booking slot. Cycle North will use reasonable endeavours to secure an alternate booking for the cancelled training session

Less than 14 days

100% of the course costs, provided Cycle North cannot find an alternate school / organisation to fulfil the booking slot. Cycle North will use reasonable endeavours to secure an alternate booking for the cancelled training session

Cycle North shall invoice the school directly for any sums due in accordance with the notice periods stated above. Should part of a course be cancelled by the school the above charges will relate to the proportion of the course that is cancelled.

There shall be no charge to the school where cancellation is due to:

  • Unannounced Ofsted Inspection

  • Public health mandated closure of school

  • A force majeure event

Although the school may choose to cancel the whole Bikeability course due to an unannounced Ofsted Inspection, feedback from Ofsted states that they value seeing Bikeability in schools.

Cancellation by Cycle North:

In exceptional circumstances, it may be necessary for Cycle North to cancel training. The most common reasons for this are due to:

  • Inclement weather conditions which affect riders’ safety - Instructors will usually make a decision on the day, after assessing local conditions.

  • Instructor illness - Cycle North will make reasonable efforts to cover for instructor illness, but if this is not possible then training may need to be cancelled.

If training is cancelled by Cycle North then we will make reasonable efforts to reschedule.
